What?
The best action to watch is without doubt the finals of the 2009
TEVA Cataract Extreme Race – Powered by HYDRO TASMANIA. After the Extreme Race Qualifying Run an elimination series is to be run where seeded paddlers compete over the final rapid of the river – “The Slalom Rapid”. The fastest paddlers will continually advance through fierce head-to-head elimination races (up to four paddlers on the water at the same time) until the last group eventually race for the title of 2009 Australian Extreme Kayak Champion. Expect to see action and carnage aplenty.
Where?
The best place to see the white water action is by watching the
final series on Sunday on the lower Slalom Rapid (from the First
Basin to the Tamar Estuary) on Sunday 8th November from the main walkway
between the Gorge Restaurant and the King street Bridge in the Cataract
Gorge Reserve. This venue can be accessed from three areas. Walk
in to this area via either:
- · The King Street Bridge
· The First Basin Car Park (then via the main suspension
bridge as the causeway will be flooded!)
· The Gorge Restaurant (via the Trevallyn Side)
When?
On Sunday 8th November 2009 the gates will open to the public from
11:00am with first runs scheduled from 11:30am with the event concluding
approximately 3:30-4:00pm.
What to Bring?
Bring hats, sunscreen and maybe even a small portable chair. Food
and drink can be purchased from the either The Gorge Restaurant
or The Basin Café.
